This scheme is very similar in nature to ECO4 except that it is funded by the government through Local Authorities instead of through energy suppliers. This scheme is completely funded by the government through local authority budgets and the homeowner bares no cost for the improvements.

To be eligible you must:
– Own your own home or be the landlord of the property (providing landlords have 4 or less properties in their portfolio)
– Have a gross household income of less than £31,000 per year
– Be located in an eligible area in which your local authority have a funding allocation
– Be a domestic off gas grid property (Electricity, oil, coal, LPG or solid fuels other than gas)

The main difference between HUG2 and ECO4 is where the funding comes from. HUG2 comes from the government as a low carbon initiative whereas ECO4 is funded by energy suppliers to offest their carbon footprint and gaining tax breaks as a result. Although funded via different avenues HUG2 also has limited funding like ECO4 and is allocated on a first come first serve basis, once the budget has been spent applicants will have to wait for the next allocation of funding. Both ECO4 and HUG2 are not only designed to reduce energy consumption and utility bills for the homeowner but also help eradicate fuel poverty for those in our society that need help the most.
